Behind Savanna Guides
Hi, I’m Matt.
Savanna Guides is run by Matt Gathu. I love the outdoors, especially the kind of trips where you come back with dusty shoes, a few good photos, and a list of things you wish someone had told you before you left.
This site is where I turn those notes into something useful: campsite writeups, trail guides, park notes, route details, photos, maps, and the small practical things that make planning a little easier.
A guide usually starts with a real outing. I go, take pictures, write down what stood out, check the road, notice where the shade is, ask what the fees are, and try to remember the questions I had before getting there.
Some of those notes become stories on the blog. Some become trails, campsites, wildlife entries, or park information in the Savanna Guides app. The shape changes, but the hope is the same: to help you explore East Africa with more confidence, more patience, and more attention to the place you are in.
I hope you find Savanna Guides useful, whether you are planning a weekend camp, a longer hike, a park visit, or just daydreaming about where to go next.
If you have a question, correction, idea, or place you think I should check out, write to me at gathu@savannaguides.com.
